CRAB SHACK MUSIC
Crab Shack Music is above all else, a place where people gather to make music. During the day or late in the evening, it is a production and recording studio where some of the D.C./MD/VA area’s best and brightest young artists come to create. Recording at the Shack is equal parts professional and personal- it has the quality of equipment you’d expect from a major studio, but feels comfortable and warm, as a home studio does.
After school it is often a private lesson space for local youth and adults, offering instruction on drums, guitar, piano, and brass instruments.
More recently, the Shack began presenting live concerts as ‘Crab Shack Live’ right from the backyard!
Crab Shack’s founder Jack Kilby is an award-winning producer, engineer, and multi-instrumentalist. His experience as a performing professional has developed his ears for many different styles of music, including jazz, pop, rock, reggae, folk, Americana, and gospel. His mission as a studio owner is to make artists feel as comfortable as possible and provide them with everything they need to bring their vision to life.
We offer services for recording full bands (with up to 32 channels of digital and analog input), podcasts, voiceovers, and overdubs, mixing, live in-studio video recordings, and live sound.
The Shack is a proud AEA Ribbon Mics Artist, one of the finest manufacturers of microphones over the last fifty years. Other gear features vintage drum sets (Slingerland, Rogers, Ludwig) a wide cymbal selection, rare electric pianos including a 1956 Wurlitzer 112A, Wurlitzer 140B, and Rhodes Mark I, modern synths, even an upright bass (3/4 size).
